Mommy Dearest

"NO wire hangers EVER!!!!"

The movie, Mommy Dearest was one of my favorites. I'm not gonna lie, Faye Dunaway scared the hell out of me. I had nightmares of her coming at me with that face cream on and those wild eyes.

Fortunately, my mom is not like that. She is a peaceful-loving-occasional swearing mother! She is also obsessed with feeding me. It wouldn't matter if I just ate at an all-you-can-eat buffet, my mom will offer up scrambled eggs. Not just any scrambled eggs either. She makes eggs with anything that was left over in the refrigerator. Potatoes, ham, cheese, tacos, beans, corn, etc. If it is in the refrigerator, it goes in your eggs. Somehow, they always turn out good. She would make the same eggs for our friends who spent the night, too. I remember the strange look on their faces when they would sit down to eat.

Fortunately, my Mom always has had a good sense of humor. I believe this simple gift from God helped carry her through the tough times in life.

She has always been a quick thinker. For example, she once took all of us kids to the drive-in movie and when the movie was over, she started the car and pulled away. Never did it occur to her to put the speaker back. I remember hearing my brother yell from the back seat, "Mom! The speaker!" Calmly, she told us to hold on and sped out of the parking lot. I used that speaker for years as a pretend cash register.

All kidding aside my Mom is my rock. She is a strong lady and I wouldn't be the person I am today without her guidance and friendship. We live an hour apart but we still talk about 2-3 times a week. It's hard because I know my Mom faces many challenges with her health. She has had both her knees replaced and now found out she will be having hip replacement. I lovingly call her the bionic woman. (she's that tough)

So if you are lucky to still have your mom in your life, give her a call or better yet pay her a visit. Take time to show her how much you appreciate her.

Tomorrow, I will be driving up to have lunch with my best friend for Mother's Day.
