Allow me to introduce myself. I am the daughter of Judy and Bob, the wife of Mike, and the mother of Connor and Thomas and employee #------- of DCS. I am referred to as Jana, honey, Mom, Mommy, Mrs. Henson or Mrs Hensman (depending on your speech impairment). I am all those things. However, I am someone else. I am "me".
Me doesn't get much attention. In fact I try to avoid me at all costs. Why? I don't want to see the neglect on "me's" face. I don't want "me" asking questions like, "Is this it?" or "Shouldn't I be doing something else?" "Shouldn't I have a hobby or skill?" "Shouldn't you take me to a gym?"
Me can be very loving and compassionate but me is also at times scattered, insecure, OCD, and can have a temper. Yes, "me" even SWEARS!
O.K so don't think I have multiple personalities here. I'm simply pointing out that I am different things to different people, including myself (although lately I don't know who that is). Don't most of us to put our family and friends first before ourselves? (If you answered "no", you should really get off your ass and call your mother.)
In being all these things I forget that if I don't take care of myself then I'm not taking care of my family. Part of taking care of "me" means growing in my walk with God. I want to know how much He loves me and share that love with others. Taking care of me affects how I take care of others.
So this year is going to be a challenge. This year I'm going to get to know "me" and the One who created me while being a daughter, wife, mother, friend, employee, etc.
I'll let you know what I find out from time to time.
